Katalin Czippán

Senior advisor at the Institute for Environmental Sustainability at the National University of Public Service (Ludovika / NKE)

As an educator, trainer, and expert, she works in the field of education and communication for sustainability, both in Hungary and internationally.

Her experience in education, upbringing, and communication spans nearly all related areas. In the early 2000s, as Director of the Environmental Education and Communication Programme Office at the Professors’ House, she initiated and coordinated the inter-ministerial working group on environmental education and the Higher Education for Sustainability programme. Together with her colleagues, she supported the implementation of sustainability-oriented tasks in higher, public, vocational, and adult education through policy analyses, research, workshops, and publications.

As Deputy Head of the Strategic Department at the Office of the Parliamentary Commissioner for Future Generations (JNO), she was one of the founders and co-chairs of the Social Awareness Working Group of the National Council for Sustainable Development. She participated in the development of the UNECE Strategy for Education for Sustainable Development and later in defining the competencies for education for sustainability.

Since 2015, within the public administration training system of the National University of Public Service, she has been editing and writing textbooks, developing training curricula, and delivering successful training courses for civil servants on sustainable development and social responsibility.

She has participated in several research and development projects involving higher education institutions in Hungary and the Alpine region, contributing to the development of institutional sustainability strategies, acting as a professional lead for integrating sustainability into quality management, and serving as a key expert in establishing the national foundations for Health Promoting Universities.

She is active in numerous professional organizations: a member of the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO; since 2008, a member of the Steering Committee of the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication (IUCN-CEC), having served as European Vice-Chair and later as Global Deputy Chair between 2016–2021. She currently acts as Strategic Advisor to the Chair and Co-Chair of the Education for Sustainability Network. She is also a founding member of the SoL Institute for Sustainability (the Hungarian chapter of the Society for Organizational Learning) and of Institute of Directors – Hungary.
